Homemade mozzarella sticks with chili sauce

1-2 servings (8 sticks); 5 min preparation; 10 min cooking time.

It will be difficult to find an easier and faster to make side-dish than this one. In just under 15 min, you will have crispy delicious homemade mozzarella sticks and an easy spicy dipping sauce to go with them. And that all made by you from scratch. Once you try these sticks, you will not return to the frozen section in your supermarket again!

All you need is firm mozzarella, your favorite seasoning and a little bit of imagination. For a healthier version, bake the sticks in the oven or use an AirFryer, but if you don’t mind fried food, just fry them in the pan. They are double coated, so the outside will be crispy and the inside will stay gooey and silky independent of the way you choose to prepare them.

Ingredients

  • 300 g firm mozzarella, drained
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp heavy cream (optional)
  • 1 tbsp dried parsley or coriander
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 white pepper

for the sauce:

  • 2 tbsp acacia honey
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper or chili flakes

Preparation

Take the mozzarella from the package. Drain the liquid if any and place on a piece of kitchen paper to absorb any extra water. Cut long pieces of 1 cm thick.

Season the mozzarella with garlic powder and white pepper. Mix the breadcrumbs with the parsley. Beat the egg in separate bowl.

Take one piece of mozzarella. It’s time to double coat the sticks. Dip it in the egg, then in Parmesan cheese. Dip it in egg once again and coat it with breadcrumbs at the end. Repeat with the rest. Bake the sticks in preheated to 220 degrees C/420 degrees F for 10 min or fry them in a pan. I used my AirFryer for 10 min af 200 degrees C/400 degrees F.

Dipping sauce: Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. Serve with the warm mozzarella sticks. Enjoy!
