Sometimes when we invite friends for dinner, we wonder how to impress them or what to prepare. This recipe is an idea for a delicious French starter that people can share. It’s super easy to make and doesn’t take long to prepare. Just leave the oven to do its job. Serve it with slices of fresh bread and everyone will love it.
If you have time to make your own puff pastry, do that. Everything that is homemade tastes much better than the store-bought. This time I didn’t have time to make it from scratch and I bought a package from the store.
Ingredients
- 250 g Camembert
- 250 g package of puff-pastry
- 50 g mix pistachio and almonds, chopped
- 50 g dry cranberries
- 1 tbsp fresh rosemary leaves
- 2 tbsp acacia honey
- 1 egg, beaten
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 220 degrees C/430 degrees F.
Put the cheese for 5 min in the freezer before you start working. Remove it from the package. Cut the piece in half from the thin side. You should end with two round pieces that are evenly thick. Return the cheese in the freezer until you prepare the dough.
Take the dough from the package. It has to be very cold so that you can work easily with it. If it’s too thick roll it with a rolling-pin. Take the cheese from the freezer and put in the middle of the rolled puff pastry. Between two parts of the cheese, put the chopped nuts, cranberries, fresh rosemary and honey. Put the other part on top. Wrap it with the pastry. Cut the edges, if you see that the dough is too much. Make sure that there are no holes.
Turn the dough around so that the opening is underneath. Decorate the top according to your taste. I used a knife to make a couple of cuts. Brush with the beaten egg and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 min. Serve with fresh bread and a good red wine. Enjoy!
That looks so good, the Camembert and the puff pastry seem to be best friends when put together in a dish (:

Indeed, the flavors combine so well together. And I love the fact that people can just dip in it. It’s fun to eat 🙂
